The Soteria Defense Structure Clearing / CQB courses are deployed in a tiered format based on your capabilities and needs. This format provides entry level and basic courses to advanced courses and blended programs. Our instructors are CQB / CQC certified with in depth knowledge of the most modern techniques available today. Our methodologies align with modern special operations techniques, and practical application for course specific end users.
Structure clearing encompasses the tactics, techniques, and procedures needed to systematically enter, search, clear, or control space within structures. Many terms are used to describe and define this concept based on role or mission. These terms include Close Quarters Battle (CQB), Close Quarters Clearance (CQC), deliberate and dynamic entry techniques, threshold evaluation techniques, hostage rescue, and more. Structure clearing and CQB is widely accepted as the most technical, challenging, and dangerous task.
These techniques are dictated by your role and mission and supported by your training and capabilities as an individual and within your team(s). Meaning, you must understand and clearly identify what you need to accomplish then train and develop your capabilities. Structure clearing techniques are critical for your safety anytime you are in a confined space to protect you from danger.
Armed homeowners and armed civilians benefit from the basics of controlling a safe space within their home and how to safely defend themselves from intruders. Security personnel or teams including residential security teams (RST) should have a thorough understanding and capability of practical search and clear techniques and taking action to defend people within a space. Executive protection agents must possess a thorough understanding of how to apply these techniques to safeguard Principal(s).
Structure clearing at the highest levels of the military and law enforcement includes encompassing skillsets of advanced marksmanship, command and control, communications, explosive breaching, lethal and non-lethal devices, HAZMAT capabilities, night vision operations and more.

Requirements / Prerequisites for all courses:
- US Citizen
- Thorough competency of firearms handling and marksmanship
- Rifles for military and law enforcement teams only
- *Body armor is REQUIRED during live fire shoothouse training. You MUST supply your own body armor.
- *Frangible ammunition is REQUIRED IN THE SHOOTHOUSE AT THE CONCORD LOCATION. We supply the ammunition used inside the shoothouse. Bring your required ammunition for square range training before we go in the shoothouse.
- Range appropriate clothing / range uniform (check local weather conditions)
- Eye and ear protection
- Pistol, holster, magazine carrier, and 3 magazines
- 200 rounds ammunition (you’ll need this for range training, we supply frangible ammunition for the shoothouse)
- Notebook and pen
- Hydration and food (not readily accessible at the range)
*Class size is limited, refunds on a case by case basis but typically no refunds for cancellation under 48 hours.
Structure Clearing Fundamentals – Full Day / 8 hour course
The Soteria Defense Structure Fundamentals course is for anyone who has not had a foundational course or is not familiar with modern CQB / CQC principles (has not had a CQB course in the last few years). The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of structure clearing training and operational safety, modern techniques employed, footwork and movement, 2 – 4 person room entry, and prepare you for advanced courses.
This course starts in the classroom then onto the square range for live fire drills, prior to both non-fire and live fire shoot house training. All safety protocols are strictly enforced.
Prerequisite:
- Soteria Pistol Tactics 2 or equivalent. You MUST possess a thorough understanding of safe tactical pistol operations to participate.
Objectives:
- Training and operational safety
- Relevant history and development of modern techniques
- Role and mission understanding
- Terminology and fundamental concepts
- Target identification and use of force
- Marksmanship and live fire shooting drills, CQB firearms handling positions
- Movement, footwork, stationary turns
- Approach to target / gaining access
- Single stack and split stack entry / door open and door closed techniques
- 2 – 4 person entry techniques
Solo Structure Clearing – Full Day / 8 Hour Course
The Soteria Defense Solo Structure Clearing course is for anyone who may need to engage in solo operations. This course is relevant for active shooter / active killer response, armed homeowners / CCW, security and executive protection agents. The purpose of this course is to teach modern solo CQB / CQC principles and how to systematically reduce risk, and clear and control space when you must operate alone. A thorough understanding and competency of solo operations are proving these skills are relevant, timely, and becoming widely accepted. If you have not attended a solo structure clearing course, this should be on your calendar.
Our solo structure clearing course is founded on solo Deliberate – AND – Close Quarters Clearance techniques. The Solo CQB skillset is currently in a phase of industry development and a change of fundamental thought processes of CQB. The Soteria solo CQB course provides an understanding of the concepts and reasons and specific dangers for these operations.
This course starts in the classroom then onto the square range for live fire drills, prior to both non-fire and live fire shoot house training. All safety protocols are strictly enforced.
Prerequisite:
- Soteria Structure Clearing Fundamentals course – OR –
- Law enforcement or military WITH specific structure clearing training in the last 2 years
- You MUST contact us to verify your prerequisite / exception
Objectives:
- Training and operational safety
- Relevant history and development of modern techniques of solo CQB
- Role and mission understanding
- Understanding of problem / solution sets, and criticality of firing solutions
- Marksmanship and live fire shooting drills, CQB firearms handling positions
- Movement, footwork, stationary turns specific to solo CQB
- Solo CQB specific square range drills and target engagements
- Solo entry techniques for hallways, corner fed, and center fed rooms
Close Quarters Clearance – Full Day / 8 Hour Course
The Soteria Defense Close Quarters Clearance course advances the CQB skillset by learning the most advanced techniques of room clearing. This term is now recognized to incorporate tactical employment of threshold clearance techniques during the operation.
Close Quarters Clearance is a widely accepted and preferred technique to systematically evaluate and clear spaces BEFORE you enter them. These are the preferred techniques for any operation less than emergency assault / hostage rescue. CQC allows an individual or a team options during a Deliberate CQB mission to speed the operation – AND – more dynamic methods less than a dynamic assault.
All personnel engaging in any structure clearing should have a thorough understanding of these techniques and the theories of their use. Home owners and security agents should NOT enter spaces they do not have to enter, and should NOT enter those spaces without clearing as much as possible prior to entry. Military and law enforcement personnel benefit from advanced technical options during their operations.
